Vivo has launched a new mid-range smartphone in the market soon after the launch of Vivo V17 Pro. After the launch of the Pro device, Vivo has launched its younger sibling, V17 now. Vivo has designed this device for photography enthusiasts. Coming at Rs. 22,990, Vivo has used the camera hardware and software as its main USPs in this device. Vivo is trying hard to retain its value in this price segment and is competing with the likes of Xiaomi and Realme devices. How will it fare in this competitive mid-range segment?
Coming to the display, the Vivo 17 packs a 6.44-inch full-HD+ Super AMOLED display having 1080x2400-pixels resolution and a 20:9 aspect ratio. This is a tall phone and you see no bezels around the display. This Super AMOLED display is one of the biggest USPs of this device. When it comes to watching movies and TV series, you will enjoy every minute of the experience - it is fun. There is one punch-hole notch on the top-right corner and that's it. It is all display on the front! You can see plenty of content on the front and the little punch hole won't disturb at all. Vivo has also layered the display with a screen protector with a cutout around the camera.
Vivo V17 will be available in two color variants: Glacier Ice and Midnight Ocean. The light swirls of colors are seen when light falls on it or you tilt the phone in any direction. The new Vivo V17 is a sleek device but it doesn't feel much premium. Vivo is using plastic in its build which is saddening as many other smartphones coming at this price are using glass and metal and compare my mobile
On the back, you get to see a two-column-wide rectangular bump and it is slightly raised. There are three camera lenses with one smaller lens besides the third one. You get to see the 'Vivo' logo inscribed on the left below.
Under the hood, the V17 has a mid-range Qualcomm Snapdragon 675 processor which is coupled with 8GB of RAM and 128GB of storage. Vivo could have gone with a better and faster chipset as we have already seen faster chipsets in the phones cheaper than it. Keeping that aside, this device is fast - thanks to the 8 gigs of RAM. While performing simpler tasks or doing heavy tasks, this device doesn't show any signs of lags or hiccups. You throw anything at it, this device will run smoothly as the cool breeze. Talking about gaming, this device can run anything with ease. Titles like PUBG Mobiel and Asphalt 9 run fine and you will love it.
Vivo V17 runs Vivo's Funtouch 9.1 custom skin on top of Android 9 Pie. Vivo has also claimed that it has included a new-generation in-display fingerprint sensor, which is faster and more accurate than before.
Coming to the camera, there is a triple-camera setup behind with one smaller macro lens and this whole setup includes a primary 48-megapixel rear camera with an f/1.8 aperture. Next, there's a 120-degree wide-angle 8-megapixel camera with an f/2.2 aperture, followed by a 2-megapixel depth sensor, and a 2-megapixel macro camera. Honestly, this is the same config we saw in Realme 5s and Redmi Note 8 which are priced way lower than this phone. On the front, there is a 32-megapixel resolution and f/2.45 aperture for selfies. Vivo's camera setup seems very promising in low-light conditions - both rear and front cameras. Vivo is rooting for its Super Night Mode which captures multiple frames and uses its algorithms to reduce noise and improve detail in photos. Other selling points on this phone are the ultra-stable video recording, the Pose Master feature for better selfies, and multiple camera modes.
Vivo V17 packs a high-capacity 4,000mAh battery. It can stay awake for one whole day easily if you are a casual user. You might need to charge it at night. Keeping in mind that it has a Super AMOLED battery, you might see the battery draining fast when you watch movies at full brightness. To overcome that, Vivo has claimes that the phone supports fast charging, with an 18W charger included in the box.
It looks like Vivo has done a decent job with the decent and have chosen the features in a very conservative manner. While other manufacturers are showering high-end features, Vivo has made it clear that it is a camera phone and no other in this range can beat it. And, we feel it is true! You get a superb camera with decent specifications anchoring it. So, if you are looking for a camera-centric device in this range, Vivo V17 is a great pick. Else, you can find a better all-round deal even at a lower price.
