For example, a Delaware medical marijuana card allows residents to purchase marijuana as a medicinal product in ways that they would not generally usually be permitted.

However, even for people who live in states like Washington, there are still benefits to having an MMJ card. Even in the many states where recreational marijuana is legal to purchase and use, there are still limitations on the quantity that can be sold.

Recreational stores also tend to stock products that place a greater focus on pleasure rather than the plant’s medicinal benefits.

A medical marijuana card allows you to easily purchase medical marijuana from a certified dispensary. Often, medical dispensaries can sell marijuana in a larger quantity and at a slightly reduced price.

Often people find that having a medical card is still a requirement in states where marijuana is legal. This is not so much for legal purposes but because it makes it more affordable and easy to obtain.

Who Can Apply for an MMJ Card and How to Get One

Every state has its own requirements and application process to obtain an MMJ card. However, most states follow a very similar system.

Firstly, a person must be a resident in the state where they are applying for a medical card. Secondly, the applicant must have one of the medical conditions listed by the state in which they are applying.

Every state has its own list of accepted medical conditions, although certain conditions qualify in almost every state. For example, Parkinson’s disease, epilepsy, and multiple sclerosis are universally considered qualifying conditions.

Most states require a specialized doctor to confirm that you have the conditions you are using to apply for a medical card. This typically requires visiting a listed doctor rather than your usual doctor and is an extra cost to consider during the application process.

Once you have evidence from a certified doctor, you are then ready to fill out the necessary forms and complete the application process. This is again something that varies based on the state and tends to be much quicker when applying in a state that has also legalized recreational marijuana.

Successful applicants will receive medical certification and an MMJ card through the post. The MMJ card can then be used to purchase medical marijuana from licensed medical dispensaries within the state.

In some states, a medical card also allows regular subscriptions to be set up, negating the need to purchase marijuana regularly from an actual store.
